My 'how-do-I-do-it' hacks

Ah the wonderful world of social media - sometimes it makes it look like everyone is winning and you’re the only who hasn’t showered in 4 days or eaten a full meal yet that day.

As transparent as I try to be online, somedays the world according to Instagram isn’t always showing the thrown dinner plate, the migraine that woke me at 2am, the demand-resistant 6yr old and the shower that I haven’t had for 3 days!  Truth is, most days I wonder how the hell I everything done and stay sane!

My son’s needs are becoming more of a priority, my time is becoming more scarce, my business is becoming busier!  But everyday I resolve to choose peace, and go all in just for one more day. I resolve to keep going, and breath a little deeper. “…But HOW?” is the question I get asked all the time.

Truth is, it would be easy to tell myself that my circumstances are pretty damn rough right now. And everyday I was starting to get overwhelmed at trying to be, do and have it all.  I was starting to feel a permanent state of disappointment at how I was achieving nothing at all. And I was starting to feel a hypocrite - I mean my clients come to me because they are inspired by the fact that I AM doing it all - and some days I can’t do any of it.

So for 2019, I had to come up with a way of how I can continue to run my business, look after my son - AND MYSELF - in spite of these challenging circumstances. And here’s what I’ve come up with for now - here’s the HOW I do it all, and i’m sharing them with you in case you want to try any of them too!

1. Ready meals - yep, I’m pay someone to make my food. When I’m time poor I eat like crap and that spirals my energy. So I’m trialling having fresh cooked, plant based meals delivered to my door and seeing how it goes. I’ll let you know!

2. Spiritual self care - I might not get beach walks or yoga classes but I can meditate lying next to Flynn before he wakes and as he goes to sleep. Changing my programming, and being guided by most favourite mentors through meditations & visualisations helps me to create the space I need to find my spiritual anchor and alignment.

3. Water - my body’s request. No explanation needed, but according to Flynn’s latest encyclopedia our brains are 78% water!  This is probably the hardest one on my list!

4. Sleep - I go to bed with Flynn at 8:30pm and I get up at 4am once he’s in deep sleep to start work. I still get 7 hrs most nights. And if I can’t slide out of bed, I write blogs or emails on my phone whilst he sleeps. I’m re-writing my story that 7 hrs is more than enough sleep, and actually I’m starting to wake before my alarm now.

5. Essential oils - my life force. They calm, inspire, motivate, regulate and energise me. They are a must for Flynn’s emotional needs too. We don’t leave the house without them.

6. Audiobooks - Jim Rohn once said we are likely to become the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Well, my physical list wasn’t looking a favourable match for creating my big dreams, so my company now is mostly digital and my top 5 besties are all living the life I’m creating, and calling me forward instead of keeping me stuck.

7. Peloton - I did a crazy thing.  It involves daily riding. You can read about that later this week!

8. Music - We’ve learnt this to be hugely regulatory for Flynn, and a fun way to shift both our energies when we’re in a funk.  We bought a wireless speaker than we move around the house with us. Singing lifts the soul, dances restores the body. Move your body. Move your mind.

9. Nature - Somedays we don’t, can’t, leave the house. And so immersing ourselves in nature programs, or sitting and listening to the birds and watching them in our garden can be just as soothing as a walk in the park. Do what works!

10. Rituals - this is new for me this year, and everyday I am learning more and more how to shift old habits and slay stories through the power of rituals.

Life will always have just as many challenges as it has choices.  We always think that life will only be better when we have the thing we don’t have.  But truth is life can be better now - if that’s the way you choose to look at things. And I’d rather give these things a try that give up on my dreams.

What about you?  What are some of the ways that you can start to change your thoughts, and support your body, instead of feeling stuck in your circumstances?  I’d love to know if you try any of my top ten, or what your favourite stay sane hacks are!
